Man killed and another arrested after crash in Gillingham

A man has died and another has been arrested following a crash on the M2.

Huge delays have followed the smash on the coastbound stretch between junctions 4 (Gillingham) and 5 (Sittingbourne) just after 1.30pm. The road reopened at 10pm.

A grey BMW estate and a white lorry collided in the incident.

Despite the efforts of police, paramedics, the air ambulance, and fire services, the man in his 20s was not able to be saved. His family has been notified.
A 22-year-old guy was taken into police custody after being suspected of causing death via reckless driving.
The Serious Collision inquiry Unit (SCIU) is conducting an inquiry into the collision and is requesting that drivers examine their dashcams for any footage that could be useful to their investigation.

Between Junction 2 for Rochester and Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill, two lanes of the M2 were also blocked by another crash.

That occurred between a car and a van on the coastbound at approximately 3:30 p.m. carriageway.

Drivers were left in hour-long queues across Medway.
The police investigation remains ongoing.
