Road closed as man dies after Rugeley crash

A man in his seventies has died following a fatal road accident in Rugeley this morning.

Emergency services were called to a report of a collision between a Ford Focus and Land Rover on the junction between Stile Cop Road and Hednesford Road at 7.25am.

Staffordshire Police say a 79-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been notified and will be offered support from specially-trained officers.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a car and a 4×4 vehicle which had been in collision.

“The driver of the car, a man, was in a critical condition and was being cared for by the CFR and bystanders.

Crews worked as a team to immediately commence advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene a short time later.

“Two other patients involved in the collision were described as ‘walking wounded’ and had sustained minor injuries. They were assessed by ambulance staff but didn’t require hospital treatment.”

Police officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information and an investigation is underway.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage should call 101 quoting incident number 178 of 15 August.
