Following a serious crash in Oldham on Saturday morning, there was a massive emergency service response.
At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, an incident occurred that resulted in Park Road being closed for several hours. Images from the scene, which is close to Alexandra Retail Park, show numerous fire engines, police vehicles, and ambulances.
A short distance from Oldham town centre, in the retail park, an air ambulance also made a landing.
In an afternoon statement on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police stated: “At approximately 9:15 a.m., officers attended to reports of an RTC in Park Road, Oldham.
“Road closures are currently in place while police and other emergency services carry out their work.”
“Just before 9.20 a.m. today (Saturday), two fire engines from the Oldham and Chadderton fire stations as well as the technical response unit from the Ashton fire station were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Park Road, Oldham,” the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service continued. Together with their Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service colleagues, the crews are still present.”
Investigations at the scene
Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are carrying out investigations at the scene this evening. The force is yet to provide any information on the circumstances of the crash.
‘So many police and ambulances’
A worker at a shop near to the scene said he saw “so many police and ambulances” in the aftermath of the crash.
Police guard cordon
Police officers are currently guarding the cordon at the junction where Park Road meets Kings Road and Woodstock Street.
