Major Bundaberg road closed in both directions after car crash kill one with another fighting for life

A two-car collision that shut down the Bruce Highway close to Bundaberg claimed the life of a man travelling with his spouse.

In the collision at Apple Tree Creek just before six p.m. today, paramedics described as “serious,” resulting in the 70-year-old man’s death at the scene, his 66-year-old wife, and two individuals in the other car suffering injuries.

The couple, a 38-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man, were transported to Bundaberg Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and in a stable state.

At the scene, police told 7NEWS that they thought one of the cars had crossed into the other lane.

Acting Inspector Cameron Schneider stated, “Early investigations indicate that a vehicle travelling north crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with a vehicle travelling south.”

“One of the public members that we currently have doesn’t spend time with his family.

“We want to ensure that none of these incidents occur in Queensland.”

The crash occurred near Maryborough Gin Gin Rd.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours as a result of the crash.
