Leeds United news as fears of ‘decline’ grow over £1.7m stadium cost

Catch up on the latest Leeds United headlines from Elland Road as the international break reaches its halfway stage.

Here are the most recent Leeds United news stories for October 14th.

Concerns over Whites’ ‘decline’ over the £1.7 million Elland Road cost
Andrea Radrizzani’s tenure in the Leeds United boardroom was confirmed by this week’s publication of new documents on Companies House, but it also made an unpalatable fact about the team’s stadium public.

The Whites are now paying Elland Road £1.7 million a year under a lease that will end in 2032. That hasn’t made everyone feel at ease.

Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie admitted to Football Insider that “it is a little weird.” “That aspect of the game genuinely eludes me. It’s similar to renting a property; you have no control over it.

“If you are going to buy a football club buy it all. They could go further into decline if they do not get it sorted. Leeds are a huge club and their fans deserve better – if somebody wants to buy them and take them forward, I would hope they would be willing to get it sorted.“

Brenden Aaronson concerns raised as struggles continue

It’s been a disappointing loan spell at Union Berlin for Brenden Aaronson, with concerns raised about the US international’s physicality since his temporary switch to the Bundesliga in the summer.

The 22-year-old moved to Elland Road from RB Salzburg prior to the 2022/23 season but couldn’t help the Whites avoid relegation to the Championship. He became one of a glut of loan exits this year, with the Champions League newcomers picking him up on a one year switch.

Aaronson picked up an unimpressive score of five out of 10 when local newspaper Märkische Oderzeitung cast their verdicts this week. “He still lacks physical robustness,” the report reads. “His dribbling skills rarely result in a goal threat, and he also revealed significant deficiencies in scoring goals. He missed several chances to score.”

The German side have lost their last seven matches and have slipped to 13th in the league, though the United loanee has featured in both Champions League group matches against Real Madrid and Braga.
