Zaman Akhter, a seamer from Gloucestershire, has been selected for the England Lions’ forthcoming tour of South Africa.

Akhter is one of 19 players chosen for the tour, which will include a four-day match against South Africa A in Western Province and run from November 20 to December 14.

In the first innings of the Lions’ four-day match against Sri Lanka at New Road earlier in 2024, the 25-year-old claimed five wickets for 32 runs, marking his Lions debut. He played a crucial part in the home team’s 7-wicket victory by following up his fantastic first innings performance with 2-59 in the second.

With an emphasis on individualised, top-notch training, the camp will promote the growth of the players with the greatest potential. Andrew Flintoff, head coach of the England Men’s Lions, said: “We’re thrilled to have such a talented bunch of players travelling to South Africa. We have chosen these players from a range of veteran players who have performed well in the England setup and in the domestic game to some of the most promising up-and-coming talent.”

“The players’ development will be aided and expedited by the camp, which will also help them transition into future performance setups and offer insight into different facets of the international setup.”
