Tragedy as body discovered in Kenilworth after horrific incident

A WOMAN?s body was found on a Kenilworth road today after an apparent hit and run accident.

The body was discovered close to the shops in the middle of Albion Street about 4.30am.

The woman has not yet been named. Police believe she was in her mid-20s.

The road was closed this morning while police carried out investigations, causing problems for rush-hour traffic. Scenes of crime officers quickly put a tent over the body, which was found on the shops side of the road. The body was removed shortly before 9am.

More than a dozen officers carried out house-to-house inquiries behind the police cordon.

A spokeswoman said: ?Officers are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances of the woman?s death, but believe she has been struck by a vehicle.?

A post mortem was due to be held at Warwick Hospital this afternoon.

Diane Davies, post office manager at the One-Stop shop, in Albion Street, said: ?It?s an awful thing. I?ve got two daughters in their 20s and I just feel for the family of this girl.?

A postman is believed to have seen a woman sitting on the kerb by the shops, reading a newspaper, a short while before the body was found.
