The situation of Jameson Williams for Week 10 has been announced as he serves out his two-game ban on Sunday.
Jameson Williams’ two-game suspension for breaking the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy will come to an end on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. He had gained momentum throughout the off-season, but the suspension put it all on hold.
Then, last week, there was reports of his role in an October 8 gun-related incident. In particular, the Detroit Police Department is looking into why he was let out of jail, according to WXYZ-TV in Detroit.
Regarding the gun incident, Williams has a lot to decide because the police investigation is still underway and charges may or may not be filed. Another NFL ban, this time for violating the personal conduct guideline, is one of the possible eventual consequences. According to the rules, a suspension can be granted without a criminal conviction.
In cases like Williams’, however, the NFL typically waits for the legal proceedings to conclude before making a disciplinary decision, as it should. Additionally, it can take a long time to finish the legal process.
Update on Jameson Williams confirms his status for Week 10 and beyond?
Following the completion of his two-game ban, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero provided an anticipated update on Williams’ condition on Sunday morning.
“#Lions WR Jameson Williams is scheduled to be reinstated from his two-game PED suspension on Monday.”
“An unrelated gun matter that may take some time to resolve is still being watched by the NFL. Williams can therefore begin playing in Week 10.
On Monday, Williams will return to the facility and be ready to play in a crucial Week 10 matchup with the Houston Texans on “Sunday Night Football.”
It’s important to remember that Williams attended practice for a few days leading up to Week 8 before agreeing to his two-game ban during the appeal process. Thus, he hasn’t missed as much practice as he might have under the given situation.
Beyond Week 10, it would probably take an announcement about the police investigation into the gun issue and/or the filing of charges to have a detrimental impact on Williams’ playing status.
