Due to floods caused by heavy rains in the South West, two important routes in Somerset are closed this morning.
Currently closed is the Old Wells Road, which connects Dinder near Wells with West Shepton.
Because of runoff from nearby fields, the main road that connects the two locations frequently floods.
Additionally, the following highways are closed:
The Bridgehampton Road, which runs between Yeovil and Sparkford.
Street Drove, close to Glastonbury and Street.
The Glastonbury road is Butleigh Road.
The announcement follows a yellow weather warning for Somerset issued by the Met Office, which is in force until 12 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 21).
Since the beginning of the year, flooding has affected several regions of the county due to severe rains, prompting the issuance of this and other recent weather warnings.
As of this morning, the Environment Agency has issued ten flood warnings and alerts.
River levels are predicted to climb during the day in a number of locations.
People who are impacted are cautioned not to try to drive, walk, or cycle through flood water and to stay off low-lying paths close to nearby watercourses.
