‘A clear gulf ’ – As Wednesday coach makes alarming predictions

Ahead of Sunday’s Championship match, The72’s writers provide their predictions for Sheffield United vs. Sheffield Wednesday.
The Steel City rivalry is back in the Championship on Sunday following a five-year hiatus between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
Following Premier League stints for the former and a League One stint for the latter, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday will finally play one other again on Sunday. They had been waiting to do so since 2019.

The Blades, who are ranked second in the Championship table, are in stronger form going into the match. They moved into the automatic promotion spots earlier this week thanks to their late victory over Bristol City and Leeds United’s loss to Millwall.

Child Harrison Burrows, a summer acquisition, scored the game-winning goal after Ryan One tied the score.
Sheffield Wednesday enters the Steel City derby fresh off a thrilling victory of their own throughout the week.

Following a crushing 6-2 loss to Watford at Hillsborough, Danny Rohl was expected to respond, and he did. They took advantage of Norwich City’s subpar performance to win 2-0, with goals from Josh Windass and Dominic Iorfa.

They are now ranked 15th on the table as they attempt to recover from a lackluster start to their debut season under Rohl.

Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the match.

Wednesday is more of a work in progress, but the Blades are looking like serious candidates for promotion. And that must put the hosts in control, especially with the home fans supporting them.
“I predict that this game will be fiercely contested, but Sheffield United will win 2-1.”

After their thrilling victory away at Bristol City, Sheffield United will be feeling confident and will be the favorites in this match.

“Both fan bases will be energized by Wilder’s players, and the atmosphere at Bramall Lane will be incredible.”

A single goal might win these typically tense contests. Sheffield Wednesday will be glad to have defeated Norwich City the previous time around since they wouldn’t have wanted to into this match fresh off a 6-2 loss to Watford the previous Saturday.

“I’m leaning more in the direction of a close victory at home to strengthen Sheffield United’s bid for promotion.”
