According to police, a devastating fire that destroyed a first-floor apartment in Coventry claimed the lives of a man and a woman. It took place in Stoke Aldermoor on The Coppice.
On Friday, November 8, firefighters raced to the location at approximately 4.40 am and fought the fire for over an hour, claiming it had “affected the entire property.” Inside the address on The Coppice, two unnamed individuals were discovered deceased.
A heartfelt note that reads, “You will be missed,” has been placed outside the flat with flowers. According to police, they have been working with the West Midlands Fire Service to determine what caused the massive fire.
According to West Midlands Police, investigators concluded that the fire was “accidental” and that the battery pack of an e-bike charging in the hallway was the cause. The event is “not being treated as suspicious,” according to the officers.
“We have been working alongside West Midlands Fire Service to investigate the fire on The Coppice on Friday (November 8),” West Midlands Police said in a statement released today (November 11).
Investigators have since established that the e-bike’s charging battery pack was the unintentional source of the fire. We will now both help the coroner with their investigations, and our thoughts are still with the deceased man and wife.
“No additional information regarding the cause or the victims who tragically lost their lives in this accident will be released at this time,” a West Midlands Fire Service spokesman stated. We are still thinking of everyone impacted by this terrible catastrophe.
