Dodgers agreed deal with Met

The Dodgers organisation will receive a 2023 trade deadline addition.

Surprisingly, the New York Mets have purchased significantly more trade deadline assets than they have sold in the past ten years. The outcomes of massive fire sales in 2017 and 2023 were different. The focus of the 2017 squad was cost reduction. The Mets sailed in 2023 with more positive goals.

Some of their greatest prospects are currently in the system as a result of the deals they made. However, not all of the deals were successful. The Mets acquired Justin Jarvis through a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers that sent fan favourite Mark Canha to Wisconsin for two months.

Despite his poor performance in the minor leagues for Milwaukee, Jarvis had some impressive Double-A numbers, which raised hopes that a change of environment would help him improve. The Mets never experienced it. In an attempt to turn his career around, he is currently joining the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers will get their crack at making something out of Justin Jarvis

Regarding the Double-A figures. Jarvis spent portions of two seasons in Biloxi, throwing 136 innings in all. Billy Eppler was interested in him at the 2023 trade deadline because of his 13-7 record and 3.11 ERA, which made him a suitable return for Canha. At that point, Jarvis had already been promoted to Triple-A. Nashville had a 0–2 record and a 10.80 ERA through three starts, which was not particularly impressive. At this level, a lot of young pitchers with promise struggle.

In Syracuse, Jarvis was unable to solve the problem. He made nine appearances for them, going 0–5 with an ERA of 8.04. Instead of starting all of 2024, he was able to stay around and get some additional work out of the bullpen.

This past year, the same topic emerged once more. In Double-A, Jarvis excelled. He was 5-2 with a 2.90 ERA in 40.1 innings. Jarvis was 1-3 with a 5.98 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched in Triple-A.

The relief appearances went much better, as you could expect. Out of the bullpen, he recorded a 3.40 ERA while receiving higher grades in every category. The ERA as a starter was 5.95.

Along with a number of other Mets minor league players whose futures didn’t appear to involve a yellow brick road leading to Citi Field, Jarvis chose free agency a few weeks ago. Jeremiah Jackson, a lost Los Angeles Angels prospect that the Mets acquired in exchange for Dominic Leone, was among them. He will search for a chance somewhere because, like Jarvis, he was unable to leave his stamp on the Mets.
