Detroit Lions announced Trade Star QB departure

This season, the Detroit Lions are among the NFL’s most formidable and well-rounded teams. had a 9-1 record, sitting alone at the top of the NFC. The effective play of quarterback Jared Goff has been a major factor in Detroit’s success. This season, Goff has thrown for 2,492 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 73% of his passes. He has nine interceptions, though, five of which were in a single game.

But in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Lions did select a quarterback. Although this was done with the goal of having a replacement for Goff in the future, it’s safe to say that Jared Goff won’t be leaving anytime soon following his incredible 2023 season, which saw him lead Detroit to the NFC Championship game and look even better this season.

Hendon Hooker, a former standout quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers, may be traded next season. Hooker was selected by the Lions in the third round of the 2023 draft. Some analysts even listed the former Tennessee product as one of their top quarterbacks of the draft, right up there with Bryce Young and CJ Stroud, suggesting that he could be a first-round pick.

Regretfully, the talented quarterback would tear his ACL during his final season at Tennessee. Hooker’s draft standing going into the NFL Draft process was severely harmed by this injury. Both at Tennessee and Virginia Tech, Hooker would pass for 8,974 yards and 80 touchdowns against just 12 interceptions during his collegiate career. In addition, the standout quarterback would have 25 running touchdowns and 2,079 yards of rushes.

There are plenty of NFL teams in desperate need of a starting caliber quarterback, especially one willing to come in on a cheap contract and prove he belongs. Hendon Hooker showed signs of being a truly talented quarterback in college. Being stuck behind Jared Goff on the Lions depth chart has only made him better, he’s had time to sit and learn with the minds of Goff, Ben Johnson, and Dan Campbell.
