According to deputies, a pickup truck struck a father’s vehicle as he was taking his two boys, ages 14 and 16, to school.
LAKELAND, FL. — Early on Friday morning, a 16-year-old kid was murdered in an accident while being driven to school by his father.
In unincorporated Lakeland, the collision occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. on County Line Road at Ewell Road.
According to deputies, a father was driving a blue 2008 Toyota Corolla south on County Line Road while transporting his two boys, aged 14 and 16, to George Jenkins High School. A burgundy 2018 Ford F150 pickup truck travelling north on County Line Road struck the man’s vehicle as he turned left onto Ewell Road.
The driver of the pickup vehicle had a green light that was firm. Investigators also found that the driver of the Corolla had a solid green light but no green turn arrow.
“It was dark at the time of the crash, and the driver of the Corolla told deputies it was slightly foggy/hazy,” according to the sheriff’s office.
According to deputies, the 16-year-old boy was buckled up in the right rear passenger seat of the Corolla when the collision occurred. After being taken to Tampa General Hospital, he passed away from his wounds.
The collision did not injure anyone else.
A black Kia stopped in the centre lane of Ewell Road was struck by the spinning Corolla. Additionally, it led to the Ford
truck to collide with a stopped Dodge Journey in Ewell Road’s right-turn lane.
After being closed for around five hours, the roads are again open again. The inquiry is still under progress.
