The Honduran winger seemed to take it personally when he was left out of the squad for Saturday night’s 4-1 triumph at Tynecastle.
Since his arrival at the beginning of the previous season, Luis Palma has caused division among Celtic supporters. The Honduran star’s social media post on Saturday night may have further polarised the winger from some Parkhead supporters.
The 24-year-old was left off of Brendan Rodgers’ squad for the match against the Jamboss at Tynecastle, despite making an impression during the last international break, where he scored twice for his nation against Mexico. The Hoops defeated Aberdeen 4-1 to take a three-point lead at the top of the Premiership standings.
In an apparent attempt to show supporters that he wasn’t even interested in watching the game, Palma took to Instagram. The wide player shared a picture of himself watching the Copa Sudamericana match between Racing Club of Argentina and Cruzeiro of Brazil on his Instagram account, even though Celtic did play Neil Critchley’s squad in the capital.
The post was quickly noticed by hoops fans, and even though Palma eventually removed it, some ardent supporters were not impressed. “Luis Palma sitting in the house trying to make it all about him” was written by one admirer on X, while another commented, “Now deleted, total wee guy stuff.”
It comes days after Palma, who has only made six cameo appearances for Celtic this season and for whom the Parkhead club reportedly rejected bids from teams in France and Germany last summer, stated that he was willing to put in more effort to play more minutes under Rodgers.
“Yes,” he said. There is nothing else to do but work and never stop searching for opportunities.
