Rotherham fans urged Steve Evans to look into Middlesbrough deal

In League One, Rotherham United has not had the kind of start that many fans would have hoped for.

The Millers would have had their sights set on an instant return to the second division after being demoted from the Championship the previous season.

They now have a challenging task in trying to finish in the top six, though, given their results under Steve Evans have been anything than spectacular.

In order to support their desire to return to the second division at the first opportunity, supporters may wish that certain past players were still active.

Rotherham United: Dan Barlaser claim issued amid lack of Middlesbrough game-time

Tom Eyre, a Rotherham supporter for FLW, said Dan Barlaser would be the ideal candidate to return to the team when asked which former player he would most like to see.

Given the 27-year-old’s lack of playing time at Middlesbrough, he expressed his desire to see him return on loan and commended the midfielder’s skills both on and off the ball.

Eyre told Football League World, “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Dan Barlaser is the player I’d bring back.”

“He controls the game like no other player I’ve seen, and he would fit into any team.”

He is an expert in his position, a defensive midfielder who excels at off-the-ball play and is greatly underappreciated for it.

However, his ability to play the ball, his passing range, his set piece delivery, his long-range efforts, etc.

“I would immediately bring him back because he is a fantastic player who would improve whatever team he plays for.

“And since you’re not popular at Boro, a loan might still be possible.”

Dan Barlaser’s impact at Rotherham United

Due to Michael Carrick’s management, Barlaser has had little opportunity to make a significant impression during his time with Middlesbrough.

He only made 33 Championship appearances last season, making 26 starts, and he has now dropped even farther in the rankings.

He played a significant part in Rotherham’s two promotions to the Championship in 2020 and 2022 while he was a consistent member of the team.

Before leaving in the January transfer window of 2023, the midfielder made 44 appearances throughout the 2021–22 campaign, scoring nine goals and dishing out seven assists.

Rotherham United should ask the Dan Barlaser question even if they don’t get the answer they want

To try to break out of their League One slump, Rotherham will be looking to the January transfer window.

Additionally, considering how little Barlaser is contributing at Middlesbrough, a loan move might be imminent.

Restoring the player to regular competition would be a wise short-term option that would increase his transfer worth.

That might be perfect before next summer if he doesn’t have a long-term future at the Riverside, but it will also depend on whether Carrick feels happy parting with someone who can play cover in a key position.
