This winter, the Chicago Cubs are still at the centre of trade rumours. The main focus this time is Chicago’s desire to trade outfielder Cody Bellinger and his enormous deal. Due to the size of his contract, Bellinger is unlikely to be transferred, but Chicago will still make an effort. On MLB Network, Anthony Castrovince made a trade proposal that would send Bellinger to the Toronto Blue Jays along with two other young, talented players. Superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would be the focal point of the enormous comeback. Here is the entire offer that Castrovince made:
The Chicago Cubs sign: 1B RHP’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Gausman, Kevin The Toronto Blue Jays sign a first baseman 1B/OF Michael Busch Bellinger, Cody, RHP Cade Horton (prospect number three for CHC) Before I go too further into this trade, let’s clear up a few things. Unless he makes a firm demand to leave Toronto, which is not the case at the moment, the Blue Jays will not be transferring their star first baseman. This transaction does little to advance Toronto’s ambition of assembling a team capable of competing in 2025.
Although he is not Guerrero, Michael Busch is a young first baseman with a lot of potential. Although it doesn’t make sense, Toronto has the financial means to accept Bellinger’s contract. Instead of increasing the return to Chicago, taking on Bellinger’s deal would decrease it. Even if Cade Horton is a talented young player with ace potential, Busch and he simply cannot make this transaction worthwhile. This trade would never happen on any planet. Guerrero will continue to be a Blue Jay. Instead of sending him go in a move like this, Toronto is more likely to ink him to a huge contract extension.
