Notts County Disappointing stalemate in Newport

On match day seventeen of the current League Two season, George Abbott and his Notts County team welcomed Welsh team Newport County to Meadow Lane in an attempt to recover from their extremely frustrating 2-0 loss to Crewe Alexandra away from home in the six-pointer of the weekend.

As is customary, manager Stuart Maynard used his tried-and-true 343 formation for this game, and Abbott joined captain Matt Palmer in a midfield two.

Youngsters side forced to settle for a point in home game

Despite dominating the first half with 12 shots to their opponents’ four, Notts failed to make any headway. Despite the return of star striker Alassana Jatta from international duty, they were still unable to score the game-winning goal and had to settle for a share of the spoils, making it two points from their previous three games. In the second half, they had even more territory and put up 15 shots to Newport’s three, for a total of 27 shots to seven.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Abbott himself was able to have a nice game. 66 touches, three opportunities generated, two accurate long balls, one shot on goal, one shot off target, and one goal were all recorded by the young midfielder shot blocked, 6/12 ground duels won, three fouls drawn, one interception, and three tackles.
