SWINDON Ian Holloway, the town manager, called his team’s performance “unacceptable” after Colchester United easily defeated them.
After losing 4-0 at the U’s, the Robins are now firmly anchored at the bottom of the League Two standings.
By the half, Colchester had total control thanks to a brace from Samson Tovide, a goal from Jack Payne, and an own goal from Harry Smith.
Additionally, Swindon’s second-half effort was more energetic, but it was too little, too late for them to win the match.
“The goal injured us, and then everything we were doing prior to that goal stopped,” he stated.
Since we were actually beaten there and then, the energy they gained from it and the energy we lost as a result were completely unacceptable.
“They just ran all over us after we lost two goals again.
“I haven’t seen that from my lot; I’ve seen mistakes and I’ve seen us come back and turn it around but to that was unacceptable and I’m shocked.
“After the fight they displayed over the weekend until the penalty situation, I didn’t expect that from these guys.”
“The people who have come all the way up here to watch you play tonight deserve your heart and soul to battle for them, but you gave the impression that you didn’t care; they know that’s unacceptable.
Was there too many players on the field during the 120 minutes (at Accrington)? I’ll need to examine that.
“But it isn’t good enough and let’s face it, we’re in the mire right now and we deserve to be after that.”
Holloway has vowed to make his players watch the first half of the Colchester game again, after they produced a dire display in the opening 45 minutes.
Holloway continued: “It was unacceptable and anybody with a Swindon badge on, I apologise.
They will watch every minute of the first half and ask, “What happened, where are you?” since it was not good enough. I will show them what that looked like.
“I didn’t see the fight I thought they would have until the second half, but it’s too late and I’m in a lot of pain.
“We’re absolutely rooted to the bottom, so every single game is going to get as tough as you like and if that’s how we respond, I might need the cavalry to come in.”
