Before their reunion in Brighton’s Carabao Cup match at Chelsea, Roberto De Zerbi says he is looking forward to seeing
Last month, the Blues spent a combined £140 million for goalkeeper Sanchez and midfielder Caicedo. Defender Levi Colwill also returned to Stamford Bridge after a season-long loan with the Seagulls.
When Chelsea plays Brighton on Wednesday night under the lights at Stamford Bridge, all three players may participate.
De Zerbi, though, stated: “I am looking forward to seeing them and always happy to meet my former players,” prior to his team’s third-round trip to west London.
They no longer play with us, but I’d still like to give them a big embrace.
The team of De Zerbi will think they have a good chance of moving on to the fourth round. After winning five of their first six games, Brighton sits an amazing third in the Premier League standings, while Chelsea is mired in the bottom two.
Following a 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa last weekend, Mauricio Pochettino has presided over Chelsea’s worst start to a top-flight season in 45 years.
With victories at home and away in the league last year, Brighton, who had to come from behind to defeat south coast rivals Bournemouth, also has the better recent head-to-head record versus Chelsea.
De Zerbi, though, asserted that “we have great respect for Pochettino and Chelsea. They have a fantastic squad, but I’m not aware of any issues.
It will be a really difficult game for us. We must consider ourselves, organise and play better than in the previous game, and have a clear strategy because it was unclear in the first half (against Bournemouth).

De Zerbi says he will make a late decision regarding Evan Ferguson after taking the teenager out of the Bournemouth game at halftime. Pascal Gross will also be missing once more.
“I haven’t made up my mind about Evan yet,” the Italian continued. He should give it his all, please. On Sunday, he wasn’t in the finest of physical shape, but he still wanted to play.
If we want to compete every three days, the players must be in the finest possible shape. We must alter our starting lineup and make the best choices each game.
