Exclusive: Leigh is negotiating with a fresh candidate for 2025.
Alec Tuitavake, a prop, is a target for the Leigh Leopards. Leythers are negotiating with the 23-year-old, who is off-contract after his contract with the St George Illawarra Dragons expired, according to Rugby League Live.
Although Tuitavake has not yet played in the NRL, he has drawn attention while representing the Dragons’ reserve grade team in the NSW Cup. Given that he participated in 22 games during the previous season, he is qualified for a Governing Body Endorsement.
Tuitavake, a highly regarded player in Australia, was a member of St George’s top 30 team for the 2024 season and represented New South Wales in the junior grades. He is eager to join the Super League, though, as first-grade possibilities are scarce, and Leigh is now making the most effort after negotiating a deal for the upcoming season.
However, this comes as there have been increasing rumours that one of Leigh’s new hires may not actually be joining the team. Although the Leopards have previously announced Ben Condon’s coming for 2025, sources have told Rugby League Live that he may not be joining the team. The tall forward is still in Australia and has not yet joined the Leopards.
Leigh would then have two quota spaces left after Matt Moylan’s unannounced departure last month. Leigh’s interest in Tuitavake is sincere for the time being, as the club appears to be concentrating on adding more middle-field reinforcement.
After losing Tom Amone, Kai O’Donnell, and John Asiata, the Leopards have already signed Isaac Liu for 2025, and Aaron Pene joined in the middle of the season and will be back for the next year.
After managing a significant player turnover in 2025, Leigh is expecting that their revamped team will help them finish in the playoffs for the third time in a row.
