Sheffield Wednesday boss wanted by Premier League club

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is in the running for the Southampton position, as stated by a report from talkSPORT. Sheffield Wednesday could encounter some interest in their well-regarded head coach. Southampton is seeking a new manager following their decision to dismiss former MK Dons and Swansea City coach Russell Martin.

Rohl, 35, has prior experience with the Premier League club and has excelled since taking over the Owls last season. He successfully led them to remain in the Championship against the odds in the previous campaign, and they currently sit in 9th place in the standings, just five points shy of the play-offs.

In the latest news regarding the Saints’ search for a successor to Martin, talkSPORT reports that they might consider Rohl. Following a 5-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, they find themselves at the bottom of the table and nine points adrift of safety after a challenging few months.

Sheffield Wednesday’s manager is being considered by Southampton.
Rohl’s playing career was spent in the lower divisions of German football before he transitioned into coaching.
He began his coaching journey at RB Leipzig and then moved on to Southampton, Bayern Munich, and the Germany national team.
Sheffield Wednesday appointed him as their first team manager in October of the previous year, making him the youngest manager in the Football League.
Since joining the Owls, the Zwickau native has achieved a match win rate of 42.86%.
In May, Rohl was given a new contract with the Owls that lasts until the summer of 2027.

He expressed to their club website at that time: “I am thrilled to renew my contract with Sheffield Wednesday. This is an incredible club that has embraced me, and I feel the same way in return.

“I want to extend my gratitude to the chairman for providing me this chance, and now we are eager to move forward and can plan together for the upcoming season.”

What’s next? Sheffield Wednesday will be anxious about his prospects now, given the rumors linking him to Southampton.

He is already familiar with the Saints and could be viewed as the person capable of helping them escape their difficulties, similar to how he assisted the Owls last season.

Only time will reveal whether they will make a formal offer for him after parting ways with Martin.

Sheffield Wednesday secured a 3-1 victory over Oxford United on the road and are building momentum as they aim to reduce the distance to the top six even more.
