Bristol City release clause genius secured superb Antoine Semenyo replacement confirm

Just a few days remained in the 2023 January transfer window when AFC Bournemouth rushed to take outstanding player Antoine Semenyo, leaving Bristol City in a limbo.

The Robins had to act quickly to locate a worthy successor for their great player, whose exit would undoubtedly leave a huge hole in the City assault.

The procurement of their successor, however, is thought to have been influenced by a move made in the boardroom.

In late January, Phil Alexander, the former CEO of Wycombe Wanderers, resigned from the position to become the CEO of—you guessed it—Bristol City.

The CEO might have had some say in this agreement, even though it wouldn’t go into force until February 1st. Not many people were aware that Mehmeti’s contract apparently contained a £1 million release clause, which sparked rumours that Alexander was a crucial component in closing the sale. The 62-year-old subsequently acknowledged this.

Mehmeti was catching the eye at Wycombe

After Wycombe’s B Team was formed in 2020, the Albanian came to Adams Park as an unheard-of teenager. However, he would soon make his presence known.

Mehmeti thrived in the years after Wycombe was demoted back to League One after making his debut in the Championship. The Chairboys supporters were astounded by his abilities, ball control, and offensive savvy and soon knew they had a true treasure on their hands.

The winger would establish himself as one of League One’s best players during the 2022–2023 campaign. He contributed three assists and nine goals in the first half of the season, putting the Buckinghamshire team in the running for a play-off spot.

Naturally, as was common when a young player was doing well, many fans were waiting for the gossip mill to start spinning when January arrived. Everyone connected to the Chairboys was relieved that there was nothing specific with only a few days remaining in the transfer window.

But when Semenyo left Bristol City, the Blues’ fortunes would turn when the Robins arrived.
