Max O’Leary – 6
When put into action, the Bristol City academy graduate made some significant stops, but he didn’t have much else to do. displayed some impressive footwork that would have had fans glued to their seats.
Luke McNally: 7
Solid at the back once more, but dangerous from set pieces as well. won nearly all of his duels and unintentionally set up Rob Dickie’s goal with his improvised shot. Another productive day at work.
Having been rather prolific last season, the centre-back has been made to wait for his first of the season. It may not have been the hardest of finishes, but Dickie did so well to follow up McNally’s initial effort and break his duck for the term. Also dealt with the presence of Bishop excellently.
Zak Vyner – 7
Went about his business well on the right of the back three. He wasn’t the most involved, but he is a reliable member of that defence and that cannot be undervalued, especially when City have so many games in quick succession.
Cam Pring – 7
The typical Pring display. The left-back never looked flustered out of possession and his pace and power posed a constant threat going forward. He helps bring the best out of Anis Mehmeti and their partnership is a pleasure to watch when it is like this.
Jason Knight – 8
The captain may not have done the eye-catching work in the middle of the pitch, but he did the important stuff. Some big tackles and important passes. Whenever the ball is loose in the middle of the park, he seems to be the one to pick it up. His partnership with Bird has been excellent to watch over the festive period.
Max Bird (off for Marcus McGuane, 84′) – 8
Continued in his deeper role following a good showing against Luton and was just as good this afternoon. His pass for Mehmeti’s opener was sublime and it was just one of many inch-perfect passes he produced in the final game of 2024.
Ross McCrorie (off for George Tanner, 60′) – 7
While there were still one or two signs of rust in the right-back’s performance, he once again added some steel down the right flank. His physicality both in and out of possession is a real asset.
Scott Twine (off for George Earthy, 70′) – 7
Though he couldn’t add to his four goals for the season, the attacking midfielder played some lovely passes into Nahki Wells and Mehmeti. Perhaps didn’t have as big an individual impact as those around him, but on the whole, a more consistent display.
Anis Mehmeti (off for Yu Hirakawa, 84′) – 9
The man of the moment. The Albanian winger was excellent down the left flank and deserved his two goals. Showed a level of composure that he maybe hasn’t done in the past. His only disappointment will be that he couldn’t find that hat trick. If he maintains this form, he will cruise to double figures this term.
