Harry Souttar sends poignant Sheffield United message after Leicester City

After a “major blow” injury ended the Leicester City loan star’s spell early, Harry Souttar sent a heartfelt message to Sheffield United.
Following a devastating injury that ended his season and his successful loan stint at Sheffield United, Harry Souttar has spoken out. The Australian international established himself as a real fans’ favourite at Bramall Lane with his commanding displays at centre-half, helping the Blades to recover from last season’s relegation with one of the best defensive records in the Championship.

Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 home draw with West Bromwich Albion, Chris Wilder confirmed the severity of the injury, saying the tendon was “snapped” and Souttar would miss the season. However, Unitedites were left fearing the worst when he was helped off the pitch late in their 2-0 Boxing Day loss to Burnley. Sources later told The Star that Souttar had injured his Achilles and had returned to parent club Leicester City for assessment.

Both the Blades and the player, who had rekindled his passion for football at Bramall Lane after a disappointing stint at the Foxes after a £15 million move from Stoke City, are devastated by the news. Due to the fact that only Anel Ahmedhodzic and Jack Robinson are fit and senior center-halves on the team’s roster, as well as the fact that 17-year-old right-back Sam Colechin was draughted into the team against the Baggies, United will have to change their plans for the upcoming January transfer window.

Souttar wrote in a farewell Instagram post: “Thanks to everyone at Sheffield United… A fantastic club with wonderful people. I’m afraid I won’t be around for a time, but I hope everyone at the club has a great season and beyond. A blade is a blade forever. X.

Describing Souttar as “absolutely outstanding for us” during his time at Bramall Lane, Wilder said: “I thank Harry for his contribution. It’s a major blow for us. A major blow. He’s snapped his Achilles. It’s just one of those things that happen. A big injury, like Blaster’s [Oliver Arblaster, with an ACL injury] and like Sai Sachdev’s [broken leg].

There have been a few overuse injuries, but this is what occurs when players are asked to play repeatedly when there are usually opportunities or options to give them a break.
