Barrow Raiders have signed a new forward

A Super League forward has been signed by championship team Barrow Raiders on a season-long loan for the 2025 campaign.

Barrow, who was dragged into a relegation battle in 2024 and barely avoided it by one point, will be looking for a better 2025 season than their Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven.

The team led by Paul Crarey just announced their 2025 roster, which includes former Super League champion Aaron Smith. Smith played for the Saints when they won the 2019 Grand Final.

Jamie Pye, a prop for the Salford Red Devils, has signed a season-long loan deal with Barrow, confirming the signing of another former Saints player.

Before agreeing to a professional contract for the 2025 season in July, Pye trained with Salford throughout 2024. Although he only played one game for the Red Devils in the Super League, he played six games for Barrow and will now rejoin the Championship team in 2025.

Both clubs confirmed the deal with Salford Red Devils taking to social media to announce the deal.

They stated: “After spending the pre-Christmas period with the Salford squad, Pye will now head to Cumbria and spend the rest of 2025 with his Raiders’ teammates.

During his brief loan there last season, Pye crashed onto a short ball to score his first professional try against Toulouse Olympique, a French team.

“The child will be able to play regularly in a competitive setting after returning to Craven Park, as Barrow prepares for another Betfred Championship season.”

Barrow announced: “Barrow Raiders have signed Salford Red Devils front-rower Jamie Pye on a season-long loan.

“Pye’s loan deal comes in the wake of the new dual-registration partnership between both clubs, which was recently announced ahead of the 2025 season.

“Pye will be eligible to play and train with both clubs, but is restricted to play in one fixture per scheduled round of games in any given week.

“The Red Devils will have the option to recall the highly-rated prop at any point after the first two weeks of the loan.”

Pye was part of the St Helens Academy team that reached the 2019 Grand Final but joined Salford’s Reserves by way of Oldham.

Speaking on his deal, he said: “I’m grateful to be back at Barrow. When the chance to return for the season came, I couldn’t say no.

“I wanted to return in order to acquire even more valuable experience that will help me in my future career and when I return to Salford.”
