The reason behind Walsall midfielder leaves Forest Green Rovers

Maddox, who made 21 appearances across all competitions the previous season, left the team and is now a free agent.

After spending a season and a half at Forest Green Rovers, Jacob Maddox has departed the team.

Despite playing in 18 League Two games last season, the midfielder has not made an appearance in the National League this year.

Maddox had suffered with injuries for the whole of the season and had only played once in the National League Cup against Manchester United Under-21s.

In addition to the injuries, the 26-year-old had trouble playing in certain games last season due to hamstring problems.

The Bristol-born midfielder had appeared in two games in the EFL Trophy last season against Walsall and Brighton Under-21s.

The former Chelsea academy product had been named on the bench in six games this season. Maddox had signed for the club in the summer under David Horseman after a year spell with Walsall.

Prior to loan stints with Cheltenham Town, Tranmere Rovers, and Burton Albion, Maddox had played for England in the Under-20 squad and represented the country’s Under-19 team at the 2017 European Championship.

In order to play in the Primeira Liga for Vitória de Guimarães, he also relocated to Portugal.
