Protests in the Ibrox crowd might be a blow to Rangers’ success at home, according to John McGarry. The Union Bears fan group has expressed its disapproval in the last two encounters with banners and walkouts demanding a change in Govan’s leadership.
Although Philippe Clement’s team defeated Aberdeen 3-0 on Wednesday, December 16, this hasn’t yet affected them, but McGarry thinks it soon might.
“The threat to such consistency in Govan no longer just comes from other Premiership sides,” he said in his column for the Scottish Daily Mail (page 71). It is present in the rumblings of dissatisfaction and in the protests that take place in the stands. Players are just people. They are susceptible to negativity.
Rangers fans discontent could hamper Ibrox form
It is safe to say that the Light Blues’ faithful have had enough of what they are seeing from their side and its hierarchy in recent months.
There has been a great deal of annoyance in the Govan boardroom, and almost immediately when CEO Patrick Stewart entered, he came under fire.
This hasn’t been made any easier by a subpar season on the pitch under Clement, even though Ibrox has seen mostly good results despite trailing Celtic by 13 points in the Scottish Premiership race.
Supporters, however, remain dissatisfied with the state of affairs and have organised a number of protests to demonstrate this to the Govan leadership.
This might end up being a detrimental element that hurts the Gers in the upcoming weeks, particularly given their upcoming matchup with Manchester United.
At Ibrox, Clement and company need the support of the supporters, but it might be some time before they stop venting their annoyances until something changes.
Chris Sutton revealed his thoughts on Cyriel Dessers’ departure following a goal against Aberdeen in other Rangers news.
