Even though they have yet to decide if they want Michael Smith to join the team, Wrexham supporters are still waiting for their first acquisition of the January transfer window.
Wrexham has had a rough month on the field thus far, losing away games to Barnsley and Shrewsbury under Phil Parkinson’s leadership.
Despite the obvious need for a new striker to join their ranks, the Red Dragons have not made any headway in the transfer market.
To address their goal-scoring problems, Wrexham is anticipated to make a move for Michael Smith soon, although there are differing opinions among the supporters over whether this is the best course of action.
Wrexham fans are sceptical of Michael Smith, but Owls fans don’t want him to leave
Smith was notably absent from Sheffield Wednesday’s squad for the game against Leeds United on Sunday, which sparked intense speculation over his future at Hillsborough.
But, while Fearless in Devotion took to Twitter/X to suggest Smith’s exclusion “could be very telling,” the opinions of the Wrexham fans and the Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media were wildly different.
One Wrexham fan said, “Surely we need a forward with pace?” while another added, “Not sure about another veteran.”
Smith is currently 33 years old, therefore Wrexham supporters are not too thrilled with his signing. One said, “It’s time to bin this model and think long term.”
This is obviously a recurring theme among Red Dragons fans, as one of them says Smith is “not the right signing.” It might be better to remain with Ollie Palmer and fortify elsewhere.
The Owls fan base, on the other hand, has a very different perspective, with many people praying Smith never moves on.
Smith “would be your best player by some distance,” one Wednesday supporter told Wrexham, while another said, “I’m gutted.” Been our best striker this season.”
Meanwhile, one Owls supporter commented on Smith’s absence, and said: “No Smith is crazy, would 100% be on the bench ahead of Ugbo in any sensible world.”
On the idea of Smith moving on, it has been suggested that it would be “absolute madness if [Sheffield Wednesday] get rid of him.”
Michael Smith would guarantee Wrexham the goals they need this season

Any Wrexham fans unsure as to whether Smith would be a good fit only need to look at his past partnership with Ollie Rathbone to see he could be lethal for the Red Dragons in League One.
Smith has been in decent form for Wednesday this season in the Championship, and there can surely be no doubt that he would deliver the attacking returns Wrexham need to secure automatic promotion this year.
While Danny Rohl has been coy about the rumours, there is usually no smoke without fire, and only time will tell whether the veteran will end up moving to Wrexham.
Sure, Smith may be more of a short-term solution, but his track-record speaks for itself, and Wrexham fans would soon fall in love with the big striker if he repeated his previous success in the third tier.
