It’s late January, and I get the impression that Penn State supporters are rather pleased with James Franklin’s team’s position in the 2025 national title picture.
Last season, PSU came very close, recovering from a home defeat to Ohio State in early November to open the 12-team playoff as a legitimate top five club.
Penn State is expected to have one of its most talented teams in recent memory as the 2025 season draws near, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions at quarterback. The Nittany Lions have a strong offensive line, a formidable defence, and dynamic skill players, but they haven’t yet found a dependable and consistent quarterback. Their quest for a Big Ten title and a possible participation in the College Football Playoffs may be greatly impacted by this persistent uncertainty.
The departure of veteran Drew Allar, who was supposed to be the starting quarterback, has left the team’s quarterback situation rather uncertain. A few possible candidates have been brought in by Penn State’s coaching staff, but none have stepped up to the position with the consistency the program requires. The starting quarterback job is still up in the air as of right now, with both true freshman Liam McNeil and sophomore prospect Beau Pribula, who has displayed glimpses of promise, in the running.
Both quarterbacks are talented and agile enough to lead Penn State’s offence, but they will need to gain more experience and composure under duress. Knowing that a reliable, dynamic signal-caller will be essential to contending for a conference championship and national recognition, head coach James Franklin has been outspoken about the quarterback position’s significance in determining the team’s future.
Whoever is hired will have to put in a lot of work to improve the Nittany Lions’ offence and push for the program’s first College Football Playoff berth, especially with a great roster surrounding them.
