WPVI (Philadelphia) — Jeff Lurie, owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, may soon purchase a franchise in a different area, which some may even view as a rival region.
According to The Ringer podcaster Bill Simmons, Lurie is on the Boston Celtics’ short list of possible purchasers.
Lurie has strong New England roots and was born in Boston.
Two years before to acquiring the Eagles, in 1995, he made an effort to purchase the Patriots but withdrew from the bidding.
The Celtics have been owned by an investment group called Boston Basketball Partners since 2002.
Forbes estimates the franchise is worth $6 billion.
