AGF gives reason why Forest Green Rovers receives highest sustainability award

The environmental organisation A Greener Future (AGF) has given the English football side Forest Green Rovers Outstanding status.

The New Lawn, where the club plays, has the first organic football pitch in the world, solar panels outside and on the roof, water and oil recycling systems and a vegan food.

Dale Vince, chairman of Forest Green Rovers, stated, “We are happy to have once again achieved Outstanding in our annual AGF certification – which is undoubtedly the toughest standard in the world today.”

We urge all other arenas to step up and join us in the stratosphere of greenness, as we were the first and remain the only one to reach this level.

While ABBA Voyage London, Barclays Arena in Hamburg, Leeds’ First Direct Arena, Berlin’s Uber Arena, and Uber Eats Music Hall have all been designated as Improvers, the O2 Arena in London and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro have been designated Commended.

Claire O’Neill, CEO of the AGF, stated, “We’re really happy to see the increasing uptake of venues aspiring to be greener.”

The activities these sites are taking to enhance touring and their effects on the local and global environment are what matter most. These locations have a big platform that can help and accelerate the event industry’s green transition, which is something we desperately need to achieve.

Venues must complete an evaluation based on AGF’s methodology, which covers topics including local communities and habitats, travel, food, energy, water, waste, and governance, in order to receive certification.
