Featherstone Rovers’ Connor Wynne has vowed to learn from the six-game ban he has been handed on the eve of the new Championship season. The ex-Hull FC man will miss Featherstone’s next six games, including the opening few rounds of their league campaign after being found guilty of punching. The incident occurred during Featherstone’s pre-season friendly with Goole Vikings at the Millennium Stadium earlier this month. Footage clearly shows Wynne throwing punches towards Jeylan Hodgson in the second half of the contest with the outside back being shown a red card at the time.
The incident was placed on report and allegations of biting emerged after the game alongside gory pictures of Wynne’s finger. Both Wynne and Hodgson were charged by the disciplinary panel earlier this week and following a tribunal both players have been handed six-game bans.
Wynne pled guilty to the offence, while Hodgson’s not guilty plea was rejected by the tribunal guaranteeing he will now miss Goole’s Challenge Cup tie with Wakefield Trinity.
The punishment clearly comes as a great shock to Wynne who enjoyed a fine season with Featherstone last year. The outside back scored 21 tries in 27 games for the West Yorkshire team last season. Last weekend, he scored a hat-trick against Waterhead Warriors, an amateur team, in the Challenge Cup.
This year, he intends to continue to improve and advance in his profession, solidifying his position as one of the top players outside of the Super League. Even if his on-field development may be temporarily halted, he has taken to social media to insist he will return to action a better player.
“Gutted to be banned for the next 6 games but I’ll learn from it and come back better,” he wrote in a short message on Instagram.
The former FC youngster has been linked with a move back to Super League in 2026 with Hull KR in the frame and Serious About RL understands that deal is close to being completed.
