As he looks for a new team, Andros Townsend has been invited back to Tottenham Hotspur for training.
The Daily Mail reports that Townsend has been welcomed back to Tottenham’s practice facility.
Townsend has yet to sign with a new team after being released by Everton over the summer.
The 32-year-old was on a Burnley summer trial but was not offered a contract by Vincent Kompany.
Townsend said earlier this week to BBC Sport that he was in tears when told he wasn’t getting a Burnley deal, and Tottenham is now assisting him.
The former England winger Townsend, who progressed through the club’s junior system and played 50 Premier League appearances for Tottenham, is now reuniting with the team.
Mauricio Pochettino sold Townsend to Newcastle United in 2016 and he then spent five years with Crystal Palace before a disappointing stint with Everton.
Now a free agent, Townsend is back at Tottenham but allegedly isn’t being considered as a potential signing.
Townsend isn’t even with the first-team training sessions at the moment and is seemingly using Tottenham’s facilities to aid with his fitness.
Tottenham of course hold a special place in Townsend’s heart, and he seemingly loves the new direction of the club. We are used to seeing Townsend as a pundit these days and he used that role to heap praise on Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. Townsend told Match of the Day 2 in August that he was finally seeing a Tottenham side trying to play great football against top clubs.
Townsend witnessed Tottenham defeat Manchester United 2-0 and applauded Postecoglou for pressing high, playing through the third, and applying counterpressure in the final third.
The winger said that giving Postecoglou time in the position would give Tottenham their “best chance” right now.
Townsend is currently making his way to Spurs practice, perhaps in an effort to somehow capture Postecoglou’s attention.
