Daniel Jones, the quarterback for the New York Giants, is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders due to a neck injury. Jones suffered his first injury against the Dolphins two weeks ago, and he was restricted in practice this week. Despite not practicing previous week, he demonstrated his ability to toss the ball. To get cleared for contact, which head coach Brian Daboll stated was not the case as of the team’s Friday practice, is the major obstacle Jones must cross if he hopes to start again this weekend.
Despite this, Daboll expressed optimism that Jones might return, stating that there was a possibility. “We’re talking to medical people and just take it day by day here,” he said. The coaching staff will probably need to take Tyrod Taylor’s reported practice rep total into account when selecting Jones, since Taylor is said to have received the most of the reps this week. He could have a chance this weekend, but it seems unlikely.
Despite the fact that Jones hadn’t done any team repetitions, Daboll stated he was not worried about playing him if cleared. Daboll remarked, “He’s played a lot of football for us.” He’s been a part of the system for some time. Thus, once more, we’ll pick that one, get all the data, and then decide what’s best for him and us.”
Jones is classified as doubtful for Sunday’s game, along with right tackle Evan Neal (foot) and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (neck). Jackson has had limited practice opportunities this week, but it’s assumed that he is ready to go. Neal did not practice on Wednesday or Friday, moved somewhat but laboriously on Thursday, and it doesn’t seem probable that he will be ready for Sunday’s game. Tyre Phillips, who was added to the Eagles practice squad this week, is expected to start at right tackle in Neal’s place if he is unable to play. Phillips played right tackle for the Giants last season when Neal was out by a knee ailment
Three players have been ruled out of Sunday’s game: tackle Matt Peart (shoulder), center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), and left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring). As Justin Pugh was added to the 53-man roster this week, he is expected to start in lieu of Joshua Ezeudu (toe), who is now on injured reserve. When questioned, Daboll responded, “Not yet determined,” adding, “Possibly.”
Despite being limited in practice this week, running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) remains healthy as he did not get an injury designation. Graham Gano, the kicker, is also cleared to play despite having a restricted injury report due to his left knee.
