Between 2019 and 2021, Ceballos played on loan for the north London team for two seasons. After that, he returned to his original club, Real Madrid, where he has been ever since.
In fact, the 27-year-old did not sign a new contract with Los Blancos until June of last year, when he inked an extension that would keep him there until 2027.
But it seems like he’s about to leave already.
After recovering from an injury in September, Ceballos has only played 73 minutes in four games. Team Talk sources from Spain state that Newcastle is aware of this scenario.
In fact, Sandro Tonali’s betting scandals have raised doubts about him, which has piqued the Magpies’ interest.
Newcastle is reportedly willing to pay €20 million (£17 million) to acquire Ceballos’ services in the new year, since Tonali could be subject to a ban. It’s also rumored that Aston Villa is intrigued.
On Saturday, Newcastle destroyed Crystal Palace 4-0 in the Premier League at St. James’ Park, and Tonali was welcomed off the bench.
“I think the hardest part is ahead regardless of what happens,” Newcastle manager Howe stated following the game.
“People start talking about the issue and you immediately receive a lot of attention. The fans have shown him affection today, but it’s hard to keep that going for a long time. Who knows what lies in store?
“I just think it’s great for him to know he’s got the support, not just of the senior management at the football club and the manager, but also the support of the supporters and they’re the most important people.”
