West Ham star slammed for ‘strolling around’ in a ‘mood’ amid £80m Man City link

Jermaine Jenas criticized Lucas Paqueta of West Ham for “strolling around” during Sunday’s match against Aston Villa.

At Villa Park, the Hammers were thoroughly outplayed and fell 4-1, missing the opportunity to surpass Unai Emery’s team.

After a brace from Douglas Luiz, Jarrod Bowen gave them hope, but goals from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey ensured the Villans’ comfortable victory.

Jenas was especially harsh on Brazil’s star player, Nicolas Paqueta, who has been West Ham’s best player ever since he signed a £51 million contract with Lyon in the summer of 2022. It was a bad day for David Moyes’ team.

According to the article, City plans to “make another approach” for Paqueta after the FA’s inquiry is over.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, City anticipates having it concluded in time to allow for a transfer in 2024.

as informed by Jenas, “I thought they were really poor.” “You can’t do this, Paceta. I mean, look at what a player he is and how great he has been for West Ham. He simply kind of walked around for me today. He appeared to be in one of those states where he thought he would accomplish something extraordinary if he won the ball.

You see that aspect of me if not. From West Ham’s perspective, I simply believed that they had moved past these moments.

Over the summer, West Ham and Man City reached an agreement in principle to transfer Paqueta for £80 million, but the deal fell through when Paqueta was linked to an FA betting probe.

Three instances in which Paqueta was shown the yellow card were the subject of the investigation; in one case, “a larger than usual number of bets were placed in Brazil” on the playmaker being booked.

Instead, Man City chose to pay £53 million to get Matheus Nunes from Wolves, although Pep Guardiola is still a huge fan of Paqueta, according to Football Transfers.
