Newcastle identifies a weak spot they want to improve in January.

During the January transfer window, Newcastle United is trying to acquire a centre defender.

It has been determined that this region need more quality, and according to a report from Football Insider, Eddie Howe is presently collaborating with sports director Dan Ashworth to strengthen his team during the mid-season transfer window.

Newcastle had one of the best defensive units in the league last season and it helped them secure qualification to the UEFA Champions League.

However, they have looked vulnerable at the back this season, conceding seven goals in six league games already.

They will have to tighten up defensively if they want to qualify for the Champions League next season and to do well across all competitions this season.

Howe needs to find a quality long-term partner for Sven Botman and the likes of and Dan Burn are in the twilight years of their careers. They will need to be replaced soon and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle can sign a quality central defender in January.

Being one of the richest clubs in the world, they shouldn’t have any financial issues.

With three victories in their last six league games, the Magpies are currently ranked seventh. In the following months, they want to improve. A top-notch player might provide the team the much-needed boost they need to finish the season strongly in January.
