After an update from Adam Crafton, rumors that Sheikh Jassim would be interested in buying West Ham seem to have died down.
Following the collapse of his offer for Manchester United earlier this month, there were rumors that the ultra-wealthy Qatari may instead concentrate on another Premier League team.
Speaking on the Stretford Paddock podcast in July, BBC reporter Simon Stone namechecked the Hammers as a possible team of interest for Sheikh Jassim.
But Crafton said that’s not the case in a Friday, October 27, article for The Athletic.
Crafton reported that Sheikh Jassim’s representatives “insist he does not intend to buy a different football club.”
The trustworthy reporter did note that, in the future, a stand-in for Qatar might consider making an investment in a Premier League team, but that would be later on.
While the thought of millions of extra pounds being pumped into the club was an exciting one, nobody realistically expected Sheikh Jassim to turn his attention to West Ham.
Anyway, the Hammers are not exactly in a bad position right now, having just splashed out over £100million on new players – albeit offset by the departure of Declan Rice – on the back of winning a European trophy.
Even though their performance has declined recently, United is still a strong contender in the Premier League and has a chance to win the Europa League this year.
It’s possible that in the future an offer will be made, but it won’t be from Sheikh Jassim or any other Qatari investors.
While it lasted, that was a pleasant idea.
