Three players have signed new deals with the Collingwood Football Club.
The Collingwood Football Club is pleased to announce Aiden Begg, Nathan Kreuger, and Josh Carmichael have signed new deals with the Club.
The three will wear the black-and-white stripes until the end of 2024 thanks to one-year contracts that they each signed.
After being chosen by the Pies in the 2021 Mid-Season Rookie Draught, Begg has played in three AFL games following his 2022 Round 7 debut against the Gold Coast Suns.
After three seasons at Geelong, Kreuger joined the Club for the 2021 Trade Period that same year. Since the transfer, the ruck has played in seven AFL games.
Carmichael, who came to the Pies from West Adelaide via the Mid-Season Rookie Draught last year, has shown promise in his eight games with the team.
All three players helped the Club’s VFL programme this year, which culminated in a finals berth.
“We’re happy to have Josh, Nathan, and Aiden with us for another season,” Collingwood Football General Manager Graham Wright stated.
“Our football program is committed to investing in the next wave of young talent, and today’s signings reflects this strategy.
“Since joining us, Josh has seamlessly integrated into our game plan and has shown great determination. Nathan and Aiden have both displayed skill and commitment that underlines his potential.
“Their commitment to this Football Club at AFL and VFL level is highly commended. We look forward to their contributions in 2024.”
In other list management news, Will Kelly has been informed he will not receive a contract with the Club.
The 23-year-old was drafted as a father-son selection in the 2018 AFL National Draft and has made five appearances at AFL level since his debut in 2020.
Across his five seasons with the Club, Kelly was an instrumental part of the Club’s VFL program. This year, across 15 games, he averaged 15 disposals and booted five goals.
Kelly was a key cog in the side’s 2023 finals campaign, where he played a VFL career-best in the side’s Round 19 victory against Carlton. The midfielder managed 22 disposals and kicked three goals.
The Club will explore the option for Kelly to train with the AFL program during the 2024 AFL’s Supplementary Selection Period (SSP).
Collingwood GM of Football Graham Wright thanked Kelly for his contribution to the Club.
“We thank Will for all that he has put in across five seasons with the Club,” Wright said.
“Unfortunately for Will, he has faced injury challenges that have kept him out of the AFL side, but his strong willpower and ability to develop through our VFL program should be commended.
“We have informed Will we will consider adding him as a train-on player over the pre-season if we have SSP spots available following the completion of the draft process in November.”
As it stands, Collingwood holds picks 19, 33, and 80 in the upcoming 2023 AFL National Draft.
