Recently, rumors about The Rock returning to WWE at SummerSlam have been circulating on social media.
Numerous rumors have surfaced regarding Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s possible SummerSlam comeback to the WWE ring. Roman Reigns and The Rock were picked to square off at SummerSlam 2023. A significant update has been released about The Rock’s much-discussed comeback to WWE. Dave Meltzer, a writer for the “Wrestling Observer Newsletter” who keeps a close eye on WWE happenings, said he is still unsure of The Rock’s intentions.
“Who knows? I asked if there would be another person, and they said, ‘I don’t know, maybe.'” I’m not sure if Dwayne Johnson will return, but if he does, it will be for this event, which will draw 50,000 spectators to Detroit. Marca cited Meltzer as saying, “I don’t know what he’s doing again, I know there’s a strike going on and everything, but he’s always doing something.”
Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, had retired from WWE in 2004 at the age of 32. He made a return to WWE in 2012 to feature in a WrestleMania fight against John Cena. While attending a question-and-answer session on Instagram three years back, The Rock pointed out two reasons behind his retirement. “I retired in from the WWE in 2004 at the age of 32. And at that time, well here’s the why. Why I retired was two reasons. One: my contract had expired and two: which is the most important thing, an agreement that I have with anybody in the world. Any company, any individual, it’s always important to me – it means everything to me – to shake that person’s hand and look them in the eye. In 2004 when my contract expired, I had delivered on my agreement with the WWE and with my long-time mentor and very, very good friend Vince McMahon,” The Rock had explained.
The Rock made multiple appearances on WWE after retiring. He competed against John Cena at WrestleMania in 2012. Taking center stage in the main event of WrestleMania 28, The Rock managed to defeat Cena in front of his Miami home crowd. At the very next WrestleMania, the two squared off against one another. When they faced up at WrestleMania in 2013, Cena came out on top.
WWE fans have been extremely excited about The Rock’s possible return to the ring in recent weeks. Many believed that The Rock’s SummerSlam matchup with Roman Reigns would be the ideal way to celebrate his comeback. This year’s SummerSlam main match features Reigns versus Jey Uso. At SummerSlam, Uso will compete for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
