Buccaneers Make Move for ‘Coveted’ QB After Rams Attempt to Sign Him.

The Los Angeles Rams are unable to sign one of Los Angeles’ former quarterbacks because of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ interference.

On Tuesday, October 31, Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times reported that quarterback John Wolford of the Buccaneers was being promoted from the practise squad to the active roster.

John Wolford was a member of the Bucs practise squad and was being signed by several quarterback-needy clubs, but he has chosen to stay with Tampa Bay, according to Stroud. “Wolford, 28, is anticipated to sign today to join the Bucs’ 53-man roster.”

Greg Auman of Fox Sports has reported that Wolford’s contract is for a single year.

“It’s only for the remainder of the 2023 season for the Bucs and quarterback John Wolford. Sometimes these midyear practice-squad promotions can include the next year in a contract,” says Auman.

John Wolford was wanted by the Rams following Matthew Stafford’s injury.

Shortly after Matthew Stafford was hurt in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys, the Rams made an attempt to sign Wolford.

Following the announcement that Matthew Stafford has a sprained UCL in his throwing hand, Stroud notes that the Rams are sparse at the position. “Rookie Stetson Bennett is on the non-football injury list; Brett Rypien is the backup.”

Although he has been a part of the practise squad, Wolford has spent the entire season with the Buccaneers. Before being added to the practise squad, Wolford was first released at the end of the preseason. Despite having Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask as their top options, the Buccaneers are willing to utilise a roster slot on Wolford, indicating how strongly they feel about him two quarterbacks.

The 28-year-old Wolford is most recognised for his time with the Rams, where he played three seasons as the number-two quarterback in lieu of starting quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff between 2020 and 2022.

Throughout his three seasons in Los Angeles, Wolford played in just seven games, four of which he started. As a starting quarterback, he has a 2-2 record, 626 passing yards, a 59.2 passer rating, and one touchdown versus five interceptions. It’s important to remember, though, that he began the Rams’ 2020 wild card playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks because of a Goff injury.

Former Bucs RB Leonard Fournette Signs With Bills

Leonard Fournette, a former running back with the Buccaneers, is joining a new squad.

On Tuesday, October 30, Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report announced that Fournette was signing a contract with the Buffalo Bills.

In the absence of a physical, Leonard Fournette has informed me that he is in Buffalo and intends to sign with the Bills today, according to Schultz. “Playoff Lenny” finished the previous season with almost 1,200 all-purpose yards, six touchdowns, and a career-high 523 receiving yards.

Fournette will join the practise squad of the Bills to start his tenure.

The 28-year-old is most renowned for his time spent with the Buccaneers, which began during the team’s 2020 postseason run that culminated in a Super Bowl victory. During the Buccaneers playoff run, Fournette had 300 yards rushing at a rate of 4.7 yards per carry. Before being released in the 2023 offseason, he spent the following two seasons starting for Tampa Bay.
