According David O’Brien Rangers manager wants the Astros job

Right now, the Houston Astros are looking for a new manager. It is rumoured that a previous division rival manager is interested in the position.

According to Jason Bristol and Jeremy Booth of KHOU 11 news, Atlanta Braves third base coach Ron Washington is reportedly in the running to take Dusty Baker’s spot in the Astros dugout. Washington is reportedly interested in the Astros position, but it’s unclear if this interest is shared by the Astros.

Within the Braves organisation, Washington enjoys widespread popularity. Before the team decided to appoint then-interim manager Brian Snitker for the full-time role, he was a candidate for the vacant managing position in Atlanta. Washington accepted the position and has been the third base coach for the past seven seasons.

From 2007 to 2014, Washington managed the Texas Rangers for eight seasons. In 2010 and 2011, he led the Rangers to their first World Series appearances.

Baker made his resignation as Astros manager known last week. In a private meeting on Tuesday, he told Jim Crane, the owner of the Astros, of his decision. After leaving the Astros, Baker has subsequently talked candidly about his future in baseball.

Under Baker’s leadership, the Astros advanced to the ALCS each season and won the World Series in 2022.
