‘Really?’: can’t believe what VAR say

‘Really?’: James McFadden can’t believe what VAR did during Celtic vs Ross County yesterday

Yesterday afternoon’s Celtic victory over Ross County featured numerous VAR incidents.

The main turning point occurred when VAR stepped in and correctly dismissed James Brown, a Ross County defender, for making a risky tackle on Hyunjun Yang.

During the game, Celtic also had two goals chalked off. James McFadden was shocked to learn that one of those goals was invalidated for a foul committed by Hyeongyu Oh, a Celtic striker.

The South Korean made a challenge for the ball in the Ross County box, and much to the dismay of the Sky Sports pundit, VAR stepped in after Liam Scales tucked away the loose ball to put Celtic ahead.

McFadden stated, “You see,” to Sky Sports. Well, is that really sufficient? I’m not certain. I believe it is as a result of the arm coming out. Oh stands up, resting his arm across his back.

However, when players jump for the ball, there is contact. Jordan White ensuring that it is seen by the referee.

The incident is visible here but it was a very soft decision by both the referee and the VAR officials.

Quite clearly you can see from the video that Oh is watching the ball and making a genuine attempt to win the ball.

The Ross County defender throws himself down to the ground and eventually wins the foul that rules the goal out.

The on-field referee and the video officials made a rather strange decision to uphold the initial ruling when the footage clearly shows that the goal was perfectly legal.

Celtic had a frustrating afternoon yesterday. Despite going down to ten men so early in the game, Ross County was resolute and persevered, but Brendan Rodgers’ team suffered from some subpar VAR officiating that, if used correctly, would have made the afternoon go much more smoothly for Celtic.

Fortunately for Rodgers, Celtic won the match 3-0, so the decision had no significant effect on the outcome. However, there are still concerns about how some of the VAR officials’ decisions came to be.

In other news, Paul Merson is now claiming that Ange Postecoglou did something at Celtic.
