EX Hearts FC Boss confirmed by American job

Robbie Neilson lands post Hearts job as he’s confirmed by American second tier side

Robbie Neilson moved to the United States and started his first job after Hearts fired him.

The 43-year-old has been named head coach of Tampa Bay Rowdies, a USL Championship team. He takes over from Nicky Law, a former midfielder for the Rangers. MLS is the top division in American football; the USL Championship is the second division.

Neilson returned to the Jambos when they were back in the Championship after stints at MK Dons and Dundee United, and he led them back to the top flight at the first attempt for the second time in his career. The next season, he finished third and appeared to be headed for a repeat until a late collapse cost him his jotters.

“We are proud to bring a coach of Robbie’s calibre here to Tampa Bay to lead the Rowdies,” vice chairman Brian Auld stated. Robbie has demonstrated throughout his career his capacity to lead teams to new heights and produce excellent results. We think Robbie is a great fit for the Rowdies because we share his enthusiasm and drive to keep getting better both on and off the field.

“I’m so grateful for the fantastic opportunity the Rowdies’ ownership has given me to help this club continue its development,” Neilson continued. Here in Tampa Bay, the soccer setup is simply fantastic.

“The team has access to excellent training grounds and all the amenities they require to succeed going forward. My decision to come here was heavily influenced by the kind people who already work here. That is crucial for any soccer team. There is a genuine desire to succeed going forward and a lot of positivity. To take it to the next level, we need to add a little bit more quality and vigor to our already excellent squad.

Fans should first and foremost anticipate a high level of energy from our team. Regarding my team, productivity is the most crucial factor. The three things I always try to achieve are humility, honesty, and work ethicamong the clubs I have had employment at.

In the end, it all comes down to winning football games, and at the clubs I’ve played for, I’ve always been able to do that. Our goals are to win the Eastern Conference, the regular season, and the championship. That is the ultimate goal. Although getting there will require a lot of work, that is our goal.
