Sunderland star serious injury ‘five or six’

Sunderland star reveals ‘five or six’ week training return aim following serious injury

Sunderland injury news: Tony Mowbray’s club captain is eyeing a return to training over the coming months.

Corry Evans, the captain of Sunderland, has disclosed that he is very close to starting training again in the upcoming months.

The 33-year-old international player for Northern Ireland hasn’t played since January due to a knee ligament ailment that required surgery.

Evans responded to a question regarding his injuries from The Echo by saying, “It’s going good. I’m doing well. I was assigned a time frame of nine to twelve months for my injuries, and it has been a difficult one.

“I think I’m about nine-ish months in now, so hopefully back training in about five or six weeks.”

Before suffering the injury, the former Blackburn Rovers player appeared 24 times in the Championship game the previous season and 33 times in League One as Sunderland advanced.

While Evans is out, Sunderland midfielders Dan Neil and Pierre Ekwah have taken centre stage in head coach Tony Mowbray’s plans. Jobe Bellingham, a summer acquisition, has also established himself as a regular in the lineup.

Regarding his midfield teammates’ success at Sunderland, Evans stated, “I think we have a really good squad.” “We improved upon it from the previous season.

“The players from the previous season have now competed in the Championship for a whole year, and they have, in my opinion, got off to a really strong and excellent start this year.

“It has been hard, personally, to watch on the sidelines but it has been enjoyable at the same time as well because of the football we have been playing,” Evans said.

During Sunderland’s most recent Hall of Fame awards event, which was hosted by Rob Mason and included the induction of Steph Bannon, Micky Grey, and Gary Bennett among other notable players from the team’s past, Evans talked to The Echo about his recovery from his injuries.

It’s a really worthwhile event. When questioned about the significance of the Hall of Fame, Evans told The Echo, “It is a great honour for all of the players and their families to have this honour of being inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

In front of 40,922 spectators on Wearside on Saturday, Sunderland defeated Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham City 3-1 in the Championship at the Stadium of Light.
