Packers Aaron Jones to Replace with Electric Running Back.

Throughout the past two off-seasons, the Green Bay Packers have been faced with nothing but difficult choices. It wasn’t easy to decide to walk on from Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams in consecutive off-seasons (though many think they didn’t have much of a choice).

There will undoubtedly be more difficult choices to make in the 2024 off-season, one of which will be what to do with running back Aaron Jones. It’s clear that the offence can be quite effective when Jones is at the center of their attack. Nonetheless, the Eagles could find it challenging to hold onto Jones given his over $17 million salary cost. Jones’ productivity may be attempted to be replaced by an electric running back if they want to move on.

The Green Bay Packers Have Been Widely Rumored To Target Texas Running Back Jonathon Brooks

Fansided’s Freddie Boston noted that the Packers’ offence would benefit from this addition as follows:

The Packers can benefit from the extra second-round selections in this situation. Running back might also be needed in the off-season. The season’s end marks AJ Dillon’s contract’s expiration, and Aaron Jones’ impending large cap hits may result in his departure. Like it did with wide receiver and tight end lately, Green Bay could have to reset at running back.

It would be difficult to lose both Jones and Dillon in the same summer. Emanuel Wilson would most certainly take over as the starting running back behind an offseason signing, but the Packers’ choice to maintain him on the 53-man roster demonstrates their long-term faith in him. There aren’t many running backs in the game that are better than Jonathan Brooks for the Packers.

“For a player of his build, Brooks exhibits remarkable wiggle, agility, body control, and long speed. He is over six feet tall and weighs over 200 pounds. According to Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus, “He’s been one of the m

ost productive backs in the nation and is in the conversation to be the first back selected if he declares.”

This season, Brooks took Bijan Robinson’s spot as the starting quarterback. He has been outst

anding, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt on 166 attempts for 1,035 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Packers may soon have a change at running back. Jones is unreplaceable, but Wilson and Brooks together at running back would be entertaining.

Would The Packers Spend A Second Round Draft Pick On A Running Back?

It’s possible that Green Bay may invest a second first-round selection in 2024 on a running back. In the 2020 NFL Draught, they selected A.J. Dillon with the 62nd overall pick in the second round. It could be time to utilize another second round choice on that position given the uncertainty around Jones’ future and Dillon’s failure to establish himself as an RB1.

The Green Bay Packers are still preparing for the future even if they are no longer Super Bowl candidates. The Packers will have to depend more on young players on rookie contracts and sign fewer free agents in order to gradually build a healthy salary cap. This season, it is what we are witnessing. In the future, Brooks may add another piece to that jigsaw.
