Committee Member News: Chairman Jim’s Appreciation Of Ronnie Rees Is Out Now

This Association’s committee Chairman and founding member Jim Brown has produced a long-standing, roughly weekly,

blog post about all things Sky Blue for many years. Parts of it have also appeared in a regular column for the Coventry Telegraph (see below).

The posts are a mine of information about the club’s recent and long distant past. As most Sky Blue fans know Jim is also Coventry City FC’s official club historian. The next blog of this Championship season 2023-24 has just been published online.

The whole post is devoted to our member, the late, great sixties Sky Blue winger and Welsh international Ronnie Rees who passed away just a few days ago in Swansea aged after a long illness.

Jim traces Ron’s Sky Blue career from apprentice to established star in the CCFC ranks as the club followed the so called ‘Sky Blue Revolution’ from Division Three to the top in five seasons. After the Sky Blues Ron also played for West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest, Swansea Town and Haverfordwest.

Sadly hampered greatly by a stroke in his early fifties Ronnie’s later years were conditioned by his long-time infirmity.

Jim provides all the detail you would wish to have on this greatly missed and influential early Sky Blue and his words also appear, as with all the obituaries for those members we have sadly lost, in our ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’ section under the ‘Players’ tab above.

Much food for thought as Sky Blue fans ‘keep the faith’ for the current campaign. As always, there is  plenty for Sky Blue fans to get their teeth into in Jim’s latest offering.
