The way his team gave up in today’s 1-1 draw at Crewe infuriated AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson.
John-Kymani Gordon scored the League Two team’s first goal to give the Dons an early advantage. After Jack Currie’s low cross, the Crystal Palace loanee finished deftly inside the box.
However, a free-kick on the edge of Wimbledon’s own box caught them off guard moments later. Shortly after the ball was played, Rio Adebisi drove past Alex Bass.
Following their 13th draw of the season, the Dons were eliminated from the play-off positions this afternoon, as both Crawley and Gillingham emerged victorious.
Wimbledon is ranked nineteenth.
Jackson stated on the official club website: “It was a close game between two teams that were evenly matched. Both teams were desperate to win, so the game was extremely competitive. We have to be happy with the point because both teams undoubtedly had their moments.
We dominated the first fifteen minutes of the game, so it’s unfortunate that we were unable to add to the goal. We gave them some confidence when we switched off from a free kick, which is why I’m a little disappointed in the goal we gave up.
John did a great job pursuing his aim. He added the final touch to an expertly executed move down the left. I’m happy for him because he’s shown a lot of intelligence since joining. He has excelled in his opportunities within the team.
“There were moments when we could have won. They played excellent defence and risked their lives when we were shooting. We exert a great deal of pressure on them. To try to win, we made wise adjustments to the lineup in the second half.
“Both they and we played excellent defence. The fact that we were not defeated today was crucial. However, in order to reach our goals, we must succeed.
