Joe puts his injury problems behind him in order to support the Dons.
In his first season with us, Joe Lewis is eager to move past his two months on the sidelines and assist us in finishing as high as possible.
The Welsh centre back, who joined on loan from Stockport County last summer, has grown to be a vital member of our defence. But in our EFL Trophy quarterfinal at Peterborough in January, Joe sustained a knee injury following his permanent transfer.
Now that he was fully recovered, he played for over ninety minutes on Easter Monday against his old club, coming on towards the end of our Good Friday draw with Harrogate. “I feel fine, having made it through the game,” Joe stated.
“I’m hoping to put this injury behind me for good and focus on the remainder of the season because it feels good.”
Making the playoffs is still very much up in the air. Whatever occurs at the end of the season will happen, so we need to approach these final four games with the intention of winning them.
“On the last day, after the final whistle, we need to control what we can control, try to take three points from as many games as we can, and see where we end up.”
Joe saw the bright side of a one-goal loss to the League Two leaders at Edgeley Park. James Tilley had put us on the board in the first half, but Odin Bailey’s goal late in the game sealed the deal.
Joe continued, “It was a long way to travel, and it really is a credit to us to play against them missing several key players. “The boys who were out there put in an excellent shift.
We should be encouraged by the fact that we performed so well today, in my opinion.
“It’s really unfortunate. I felt the guys put in a great deal of effort and only allowed them to take shots that weren’t in the box. They didn’t seem to have many opportunities inside the box, and I felt that we were very good both in and out of possession.
“We would have been in a good position if we had converted the penalty, but even in that case, I thought our response was outstanding. We were in it all the way to the finish, and none of the guys gave up. They all still gave it their all.
